Operations Manager

Our client is a growing Food Manufacturing Company. They are seeking a sharp, energetic Operations Manager to join their team. This is person MUST be willing to work 3rd Shift and have strong leadership skills. 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Accountable for planning, directing, coordinating and managing the employees work activities and resources necessary for the sanitation process and manufacturing products during the 3rd shift of operation. This includes supervision of Sanitation Supervisors, sanitarians, janitors, all contracted and company staff on the shift, including maintenance activity and successful employee transitions from plant manufacturing to sanitation and sanitation to plant manufacturing. These duties are to be performed in accordance with established occupational safety, food safety, quality, cost, and quantity specifications. The individual in this role must be comfortable working proactively and independently in a fast paced environment that is subject to long hours (routinely 10+ hours) including evenings and on-call status.

INITIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure 100% compliance with Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Develop and enforce plant Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures (SSOPS); maintain SQF Policies and procedures and the Sanitation Manual
  • Develops and manages budget and cost control performance indicators.
  • Oversight of all maintenance activity on the shift.  Coordinates with Maintenance Manager, Superintendent and Supervisors preventative maintenance activity and critical equipment repairs.
  • Determines staffing requirements and plans for the appropriate selection, training, and evaluation of all personnel within Production and Packing operations.
  • Provides for the safety of all personnel by strict observance of safety rules and regulations.
  • Act as liaison with federal and state agencies to ensure plant compliance and regulatory issues.
  • Compile and generate period Sanitation Audit results, SQF audit result and environmental data to management
  • Ensure approved chemicals and processes for all Sanitation functions and SSOP’s are followed at all times.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Maintain Daily Sanitation documentation to verify sanitation activities.
  • Documents corrective action for all deficiencies noted on SQF, pre-operational and corporate audits
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
  • Confers with other management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve production problems and recommends measures to improve upon the operations and utilization of machines and equipment.
  • Confers with workers' representatives to resolve grievances.
  • Prepares department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget.
  • Prepares and maintains efficiency and variance reports to monitor daily KPI
  • Plan and manage the execution of sanitation processes including the master sanitation clean-up schedule, chemical inventory levels, permits, licenses, applications and records and in compliance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), Master Sanitation Schedule, occupational safety and organic integrity requirements.
  • Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Through coordination with other departments, ensures that the facility is prepared for cleaning by ensuring there is an effective shut down and start-up of the production process while maintaining the compliance on the sanitation processes.
  • Recommend and/or manages continuous improvement in a way that engages employees and functional partners in systematic, effective and collaborative manner.
  • Spends approximately 80% of time on the production floor engaging with employees and overseeing plant operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year College or technical school or equivalent experience and education;
  • 3-5 years production or related experience in a USDA food manufacturing facility.
  • Sanitation, Safety and OSHA experience
